Job Brief
The Probation Officer plays a critical role in the rehabilitation of law offenders, providing essential social services for individuals in custody or on probation or parole. This position involves assessing offenders’ needs, formulating rehabilitation plans, and making recommendations for treatment and conditional release. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, alongside relevant experience in social work, criminal justice, or related fields.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments of offenders to determine rehabilitation needs and risks.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized rehabilitation plans.
- Provide counseling and support services to facilitate offender reintegration.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, social services, and community organizations.
- Prepare reports and documentation for court proceedings and parole boards.
- Monitor compliance with probation conditions and address violations.
- Facilitate educational and employment opportunities for offenders.
- Maintain accurate records and databases related to offender progress.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Proven experience as a probation officer or in a similar role within the criminal justice system.
- Strong understanding of rehabilitation practices and legal frameworks.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with case management software and data reporting tools.
- Certification in probation and parole supervision is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel for home visits and court appearances.
