Job Brief

The Periodicals Librarian is responsible for administering and maintaining collections of periodicals and other informational resources in various settings, including educational institutions, museums, and corporate environments. This role involves acquiring, cataloging, and circulating library materials while providing exceptional user services, including information retrieval and instructional support. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a deep understanding of library science principles, and proficiency in utilizing library systems and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain periodical collections and library resources to facilitate public and private access.
  • Acquire, catalog, and classify a wide range of informational materials, including journals, magazines, and electronic databases.
  • Assist users in locating and organizing information effectively, promoting information literacy and research skills.
  • Provide training and instruction on accessing library materials, databases, and media equipment.
  • Develop and implement outreach programs to promote library services and resources.
  • Evaluate and select new periodicals and materials to enhance library collections.
  • Maintain accurate records of circulation, acquisitions, and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with other library staff and stakeholders to improve user experience and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Strong knowledge of library management systems and digital resources.
  • Experience in cataloging and classification of periodicals and other library materials.
  • Proficiency in utilizing research databases and information retrieval tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective user engagement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with current trends in library science and information technology.
