Job Brief
As a Peer Health Promoter, you will play a vital role in advocating for community health by empowering individuals to adopt healthy behaviors and effectively communicate with healthcare providers and social service agencies. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying community health needs, implementing health promotion programs, and delivering preventive health services. The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills and experience in community engagement, public health initiatives, and health education.
Responsibilities
- Promote health awareness within the community by organizing and facilitating health education programs.
- Assist individuals in navigating healthcare systems and communicating their health needs to providers.
- Act as a liaison between community residents and healthcare or social service agencies.
- Implement health promotion initiatives that address community-specific health concerns.
- Provide preventive health services, including screenings for blood pressure, glaucoma, and hearing.
- Collect and analyze data to identify and address community health needs and trends.
- Develop and distribute educational materials related to health and wellness.
- Engage with diverse community groups to promote participation in health programs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in public health or a related field is a plus.
- Experience in community outreach, health promotion, or public health advocacy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with diverse populations.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret health data to inform program development.
- Knowledge of health issues and resources available within the community.
- Certifications in CPR, First Aid, or relevant health screenings are preferred.
- Proficient in using computer applications for data entry and reporting.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
