Job Brief
As an Oxygen Therapist, you will assess, treat, and care for patients with respiratory and breathing disorders. You will be responsible for administering oxygen therapy and managing respiratory care modalities while supervising respiratory therapy technicians. Your expertise will be essential in initiating therapeutic procedures, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring the operational readiness of respiratory care equipment.
Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate patients’ respiratory health and breathing capabilities.
- Administer oxygen therapy and other respiratory treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Supervise and mentor respiratory therapy technicians in daily operations and patient care.
- Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures including intubation and ventilation management.
- Monitor patient progress and responses to therapy, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Assemble, check, and operate respiratory care equipment efficiently and safely.
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory health and home care practices.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist or Oxygen Therapist.
- Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) preferred.
- Proven experience in a clinical setting focused on respiratory care.
- Strong knowledge of respiratory therapy techniques and equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and documentation practices.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is a plus.
