Job Brief

As an Orthotist, you will play a crucial role in improving the mobility and quality of life for patients with disabling conditions. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, measuring, fitting, and adapting orthopedic braces, appliances, and prostheses such as limbs and facial parts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in biomechanics, patient assessment, and fabrication techniques, along with exceptional communication skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare providers and patients.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate custom orthopedic braces and prostheses tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients to determine the most appropriate orthotic solutions.
  • Fit and adjust orthopedic devices to ensure optimal comfort, function, and alignment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient evaluations, device specifications, and treatment outcomes.
  • Educate patients and their families on the proper use and care of orthotic devices.
  • Stay current with advancements in orthotic technology and techniques through continuous professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards in orthotic practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics or a related field.
  • Certification or licensure as an Orthotist (e.g., ABC or BOC certification).
  • Proven experience in orthotic design and fabrication techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and material science relevant to orthotic devices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective patient interaction.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software for orthotic development.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and ethical standards in practice.
