Job Brief
As an Operating Room Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting surgical teams by assisting in the preparation and management of the operating room environment. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing patients for surgery, managing surgical instruments, and ensuring a sterile workspace. The ideal candidate will possess excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. Previous experience in a surgical setting is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons and registered nurses in surgical procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
- Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are sterile and ready for use.
- Support patient transport to and from the operating room, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Adjust surgical lights and equipment as directed by the surgical team.
- Hold retractors and assist with suturing as necessary during surgeries.
- Participate in counting sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to maintain safety protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the operating room and related areas.
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding infection control and patient safety.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
- Previous experience in an operating room setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with surgical teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Basic life support (BLS) certification may be required.
- Proficiency in maintaining a sterile field and adhering to safety protocols during surgical procedures.
