As an Optometrist Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the optometric practice by performing essential administrative and clinical tasks under the supervision of a licensed optometrist. Responsibilities
- Schedule patient appointments and manage the calendar for the optometrist.
- Maintain and update patient medical records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
- Assist in preparing patients for examinations by taking medical histories and recording vital signs.
- Facilitate the billing process by coding information accurately for insurance claims.
- Support the optometrist during examinations and provide necessary assistance with testing equipment.
- Administer medications and perform basic clinical tasks as directed by the optometrist.
- Provide exceptional customer service, addressing patient inquiries and concerns effectively.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the clinical environment and equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in optometric assistance is a plus.
- Proven experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in optometry or ophthalmology.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, billing, and coding practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple tasks.
- Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant software applications.
- Basic knowledge of optical equipment and procedures is highly desirable.
- Current CPR certification is preferred.
