Job Brief
The Museum Exhibit Technician plays a vital role in the preservation, restoration, and preparation of objects within museum collections. This position requires a strong understanding of conservation techniques and materials, as well as experience in handling a variety of specimens, including fossils, skeletal parts, textiles, art, and botanicals. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment to ensure the successful installation and arrangement of exhibits.
Responsibilities
- Restore and maintain museum collection objects, ensuring their longevity and preservation.
- Prepare specimens and artifacts for storage, research, and exhibit display.
- Identify, document, and record museum objects using appropriate cataloging methods.
- Install and arrange exhibit elements to create engaging and educational displays.
- Collaborate with curators and other museum staff to design and implement exhibit layouts.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of exhibits to ensure quality and safety.
- Utilize conservation techniques to treat and repair damaged artifacts.
- Participate in educational outreach and public programming related to exhibit content.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Conservation, Art History, or a related field.
- Proven experience in conservation practices and exhibit installation.
- Strong knowledge of museum collection management systems and cataloging software.
- Familiarity with conservation materials and techniques specific to various object types.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Certification in conservation or related professional training is a plus.
