Job Brief
The Mining Backhoe Operator plays a critical role in surface mining operations, responsible for operating and tending to heavy machinery equipped with scoops, shovels, or buckets to excavate and load loose materials. Responsibilities
- Operate backhoe and other excavating equipment to dig, load, and transport materials at surface mining sites.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Follow safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Coordinate with site supervisors and team members to execute excavation plans effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of operations, including volumes of material moved and equipment usage.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues, reporting any significant concerns to the maintenance team.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices during mining operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training or certifications in heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Proven experience operating backhoes or similar heavy machinery in a mining or construction environment.
- Strong understanding of excavation techniques and safety standards in the mining industry.
- Ability to perform physical tasks and operate machinery in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and, where applicable, certifications for operating heavy equipment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
