Job Brief

As a Mineral Surveying Technician, you will perform essential surveying and mapping duties under the guidance of engineers, surveyors, and cartographers. Your primary responsibilities will include collecting and analyzing data for construction, mapmaking, boundary location, and mining purposes. You will utilize various data sources, including aerial photography and satellite imagery, to create accurate maps that depict topographical features and political boundaries. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in survey data collection and mapping technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to gather data on land features, resource locations, and boundaries.
  • Utilize advanced surveying equipment and software to collect and analyze geographical data.
  • Create, verify, and update maps using source data such as surveying notes and aerial imagery.
  • Draft detailed reports summarizing survey findings and presenting data in a clear, concise manner.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other professionals to support construction and mining projects.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards during surveying operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of survey data and methodologies for future reference.
  • Assist in the development of new surveying techniques and technologies to improve project efficiency.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or relevant certification in surveying, geomatics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in surveying and mapping, preferably in the mining or construction industry.
  • Familiarity with surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS, and GIS software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards in surveying and mining operations.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and mapping applications is a plus.
