Job Brief
The Mine Geologist plays a pivotal role in the exploration and evaluation of geological formations to locate and assess mineral deposits, oil, gas, and underground water resources. This position requires a deep understanding of geological processes, physical aspects of the Earth, and the application of geological, physics, and mathematics principles. Responsibilities
- Conduct geological surveys and assessments to identify potential mining sites and evaluate mineral resources.
- Analyze geological data and samples using various techniques and technologies, including geophysical and geochemical methods.
- Prepare geological maps, cross-sections, and reports to present findings and support exploration activities.
- Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and other specialists to develop mining plans that prioritize safety and environmental stewardship.
- Monitor mining operations to ensure compliance with geological specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize advanced software tools for data analysis, modeling, and simulation of geological formations.
- Participate in fieldwork, collecting rock samples and conducting site inspections to gather relevant geological information.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes impacting the mining sector.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Mine Geologist or in a similar geological role within the mining or oil and gas industry.
- Strong understanding of geological mapping, mineralogy, and geotechnical analysis.
- Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Surpac) and data analysis tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in teams.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex geological concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainability practices in resource extraction.
- Willingness to travel to remote locations and work in challenging field conditions.
