Job Brief

The Metal Rotary Head Milling Machine Setup Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and tending to milling and planing machines to shape, groove, and profile metal or plastic workpieces. This role requires a skilled technician with a strong understanding of machining processes and the ability to read technical drawings. Ideal candidates will possess experience in machine setup, maintenance, and quality control, ensuring precision and adherence to specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate rotary head milling machines to perform precision milling, shaping, and planing on metal and plastic materials.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining specifications and sequence of operations.
  • Monitor machine operations to ensure accurate product dimensions and compliance with quality standards.
  • Adjust machine settings and tools as necessary to achieve desired tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on milling machines to optimize performance and prevent downtime.
  • Document production runs, including quantities produced, quality checks, and any issues encountered during the machining process.
  • Collaborate with other team members to improve machining processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in machining or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a milling machine operator or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, including CNC programming and setup.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
