Job Brief
The Metal Patternmaker is a skilled professional responsible for laying out, machining, fitting, and assembling castings and parts to metal or plastic foundry patterns, core boxes, or match plates. This role requires a strong understanding of machining techniques and precision craftsmanship, along with relevant experience in patternmaking. The ideal candidate will possess excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work collaboratively within a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate metal and plastic patterns according to specifications and project requirements.
- Utilize machining tools, including lathes, mills, and CNC equipment, to produce high-quality patterns.
- Inspect finished patterns and components for dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality.
- Assemble core boxes, match plates, and other related components to ensure proper fit and function.
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to improve design and manufacturing processes.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Document production processes and maintain accurate records of materials and patterns used.
- Provide technical support and training to junior patternmakers and apprentices as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in patternmaking or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a Metal Patternmaker or in a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, and tools used in patternmaking.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to operate CNC machines and other precision manufacturing equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing setting.
