Job Brief

The Metal Patternmaker is a skilled professional responsible for laying out, machining, fitting, and assembling castings and parts to metal or plastic foundry patterns, core boxes, or match plates. This role requires a strong understanding of machining techniques and precision craftsmanship, along with relevant experience in patternmaking. The ideal candidate will possess excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work collaboratively within a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate metal and plastic patterns according to specifications and project requirements.
  • Utilize machining tools, including lathes, mills, and CNC equipment, to produce high-quality patterns.
  • Inspect finished patterns and components for dimensional accuracy and surface finish quality.
  • Assemble core boxes, match plates, and other related components to ensure proper fit and function.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to improve design and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Document production processes and maintain accurate records of materials and patterns used.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior patternmakers and apprentices as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in patternmaking or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Metal Patternmaker or in a similar role within the manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, and tools used in patternmaking.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to operate CNC machines and other precision manufacturing equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing setting.
