Job Brief
The Melt Room Operator is responsible for operating and tending various types of furnaces, including gas, oil, coal, electric-arc, and induction furnaces, to melt and refine metals. This role requires a solid understanding of metallurgy, furnace operation, and safety protocols. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in metal production processes, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain melting furnaces to ensure optimal performance and safety standards.
- Monitor temperature and melting conditions to produce high-quality metal and steel products.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on furnace equipment.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and protocols during melting operations.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize production efficiency and quality.
- Document production metrics and maintain accurate records of melting processes.
- Implement quality control measures to meet production specifications.
- Assist in training new operators on furnace operation and safety practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in metallurgy or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Melt Room Operator or similar role in metal production.
- Strong understanding of furnace operation, metal properties, and casting processes.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime as required.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
