Job Brief

As a Livestock Handler, you will play a crucial role in the care and management of diverse agricultural animals, including cattle, sheep, swine, horses, and poultry. Your primary responsibilities will encompass feeding, watering, and monitoring animal health, as well as assisting in breeding and birthing processes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with livestock care, strong observational skills, and a passion for animal welfare. This position requires physical stamina and the ability to work in various environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Feed, water, and provide daily care for livestock, ensuring proper nutrition and hygiene.
  • Monitor animal health by examining livestock for signs of disease or injury.
  • Assist in breeding and birthing processes, providing necessary support and care.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and insecticides as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of animal health, breeding, and production.
  • Herd, graze, and manage livestock movements in pastures and enclosures.
  • Clean and maintain animal housing areas, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Perform additional tasks such as milking, castrating, branding, and shearing as necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in animal husbandry is a plus.
  • Previous experience in livestock handling or farm operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of animal health and husbandry practices.
  • Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment safely.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent observational and communication skills.
  • Certifications in animal care or handling are advantageous.
