Job Brief

The Light Rail Vehicle Operator is responsible for safely operating electric-powered light rail vehicles, including subway and elevated trains, to transport passengers efficiently and reliably. This role requires a strong understanding of rail operations, adherence to safety protocols, and excellent customer service skills. The ideal candidate will possess experience in transit operations and demonstrate proficiency in managing passenger fares and ensuring a smooth riding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate light rail vehicles in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all operational protocols and regulations.
  • Monitor train speed, signals, and passenger safety to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage ticketing and fares, providing accurate information to passengers regarding fare policies.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other operators to coordinate train schedules and address operational issues.
  • Conduct pre-operation inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in proper working order.
  • Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking, ensuring a safe and pleasant travel experience.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and operational disruptions, following established emergency protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle operations, incidents, and passenger interactions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in transportation or a related field is a plus.
  • Valid operator’s license and appropriate certifications as required by local transit authorities.
  • Proven experience in transit operations or a related field, preferably as a train operator or similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and operational procedures within the rail industry.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills to effectively interact with passengers.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by scheduling needs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
