Job Brief

As a Light Rail Transit Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of light rail trains, including subway and elevated trains, to transport passengers throughout designated routes. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, exceptional customer service skills, and the ability to handle fares. Ideal candidates will have a background in public transportation and possess excellent communication abilities, ensuring a smooth travel experience for all passengers.

Responsibilities

  • Operate light rail transit vehicles safely and efficiently while adhering to all operational protocols and safety regulations.
  • Monitor train systems and perform routine checks to ensure safe operation, reporting any issues to maintenance personnel.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, ensuring a comfortable and safe travel experience.
  • Handle fares and ensure compliance with ticketing procedures, including validating tickets and addressing fare disputes.
  • Communicate effectively with passengers and crew, providing timely information regarding service delays, stops, and emergencies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the train and station, adhering to company standards.
  • Participate in training programs to stay updated on safety procedures, operational changes, and customer service practices.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and passenger inquiries, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and first aid procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in transportation is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record; certification as a transit operator is preferred.
  • Previous experience in public transportation or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in operating electronic fare collection and communication systems.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and emergency response protocols in the transit industry.
