Job Brief
The Library Circulation Technician plays a vital role in facilitating access to library resources by assisting patrons in navigating library catalogs, databases, and indexes. Responsibilities
- Assist patrons in utilizing library catalogs and databases to locate books and other materials.
- Answer basic reference questions and provide brief consultations using standard resources.
- Manage circulation tasks such as checking materials in and out, and registering new patrons.
- Compile and maintain accurate records of library transactions and patron activity.
- Sort and shelve books and media in designated areas, ensuring proper organization.
- Identify and repair damaged books and other media to maintain collection integrity.
- Assist with the operation of bookmobiles, providing mobile library services to the community.
- Facilitate the return and replacement of materials in shelving areas and files.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant library experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective patron interaction.
- Proficient in using library management systems and basic computer applications.
- Experience with cataloging and classification of library materials.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills for maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge of library policies and best practices in circulation services.
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable for bookmobile operations).
