Job Brief
As a Land Management Forester, you will be responsible for managing and conserving public and private forested lands, focusing on economic, recreational, and environmental aspects. This role requires expertise in timber inventory, wildlife habitat preservation, and compliance with environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in forestry management practices, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to devise and implement sustainable land use strategies.
Responsibilities
- Manage and assess public and private forested lands for timber production, recreation, and conservation.
- Conduct inventory assessments to determine the type, quantity, and location of standing timber.
- Appraise the value of timber and negotiate purchasing agreements.
- Draft and manage contracts for timber procurement and land management services.
- Develop and implement strategies for wildlife habitat conservation, water quality, and soil stability.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations affecting forest management.
- Plan and oversee reforestation efforts including planting and growth monitoring of new trees.
- Determine optimal harvesting schedules based on tree health and market conditions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in land management, forestry practices, or natural resource conservation.
- Strong knowledge of timber appraisal methods and land use planning.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance best practices.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to use forestry management software and GIS technology.
- Certifications such as Certified Forester (CF) or Registered Forester (RF) are preferred.
