Job Brief

The Irradiated Fuel Handler is responsible for the safe identification, removal, packing, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials, including radioactive materials, asbestos, and contaminated soil. Ideal candidates will possess specialized training in hazardous materials handling and demonstrate a strong understanding of safety protocols. This role requires experience in operating earth-moving equipment and trucks, along with a commitment to environmental safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess hazardous materials, including radioactive waste, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Remove and pack hazardous materials safely for transportation or disposal.
  • Transport hazardous materials to designated disposal sites, utilizing trucks or earth-moving equipment.
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of equipment used in the handling of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of hazardous materials handled, ensuring proper documentation and reporting.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when working in confined spaces and hazardous environments.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs related to hazardous materials handling and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certification in hazardous materials handling preferred.
  • Specialized training and certification in confined space entry and hazardous materials handling.
  • Proven experience operating earth-moving equipment and trucks in a hazardous environment.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to hazardous waste management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
