Job Brief
As an Aviation Boatswain’s Mate specializing in Launching & Recovery Equipment, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of critical systems, including catapults and arresting gear, that facilitate aircraft launch and recovery operations on aircraft carriers. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems, along with the ability to test and maintain launch equipment using industry-standard tools. The ideal candidate will have experience directing aircraft operations through visual signals and maintaining accurate logs, ensuring safety and efficiency in high-pressure environments.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain catapults, arresting gear, and associated mechanical systems for aircraft launch and recovery operations.
- Install and maintain visual landing aids to assist in aircraft operations.
- Test and troubleshoot launch and recovery equipment using electric and mechanical test equipment.
- Activate airfield arresting systems, such as crash barriers and cables, during emergency landing scenarios.
- Direct aircraft launch and recovery operations utilizing hand signals or light signals to ensure safety and precision.
- Maintain accurate logs of airplane launches, recoveries, and equipment maintenance for operational integrity.
- Collaborate with flight deck personnel to ensure smooth and efficient flight operations.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all launching and recovery systems.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in aviation or mechanical systems preferred.
- Experience in operating and maintaining catapults and arresting gear on aircraft carriers.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in using hand tools and testing equipment.
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments and respond effectively during emergency situations.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective coordination with team members.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulations in aviation operations.
- Certification in aviation maintenance or related field is a plus.
