Job Brief
As an Aquarium Tank Attendant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of aquatic life in our facility. This position requires hands-on experience in caring for various species of ornamental fish and other aquatic animals. Key responsibilities include feeding, monitoring water quality, cleaning and disinfecting tanks, and ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for the animals. Ideal candidates possess a strong background in animal care, attention to detail, and excellent observational skills.
Responsibilities
- Feed and care for a variety of aquatic animals, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
- Monitor and maintain water quality parameters, including temperature, pH, and salinity.
- Clean, disinfect, and repair fish tanks and aquatic habitats to promote a healthy environment.
- Observe animal behavior and health, reporting any signs of distress or illness to senior staff.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding schedules, treatments, and animal inventory.
- Assist in the transportation and acclimatization of new aquatic animals.
- Educate visitors about aquatic ecosystems and the species in care.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall care and management of the aquarium.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in marine biology or animal care is a plus.
- Previous experience in animal care, preferably in an aquarium or similar environment.
- Knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry, including feeding practices and tank maintenance.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail to monitor animal health and water quality.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with staff and the public.
- Physical stamina to perform tasks such as lifting, cleaning, and maintaining tanks.
- Certifications in animal care or aquatic management are advantageous.
