Job Brief
American Board Certified Orthotist is responsible for designing, measuring, fitting, and adapting orthopedic braces, appliances, and prostheses for patients with disabling conditions. This role requires a strong understanding of human anatomy, biomechanics, and material science to create effective and comfortable solutions that enhance mobility and quality of life. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to determine the best orthotic solutions for patients.
Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate custom orthopedic braces and prosthetic devices tailored to individual patient needs.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients to evaluate their specific mobility challenges and functional requirements.
- Measure and fit orthotic appliances accurately to ensure optimal comfort and functionality.
- Adapt existing orthotic devices based on patient feedback and changing needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, rehabilitation specialists, and physical therapists to develop treatment plans.
- Educate patients and their families on device use, care, and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Stay updated on advancements in orthotic technology and best practices within the industry.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in orthotics and prosthetics from an accredited program.
- Current certification as an American Board Certified Orthotist (ABC) or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy, and material properties relevant to orthotic design.
- Proficiency in using CAD software for orthotic design and fabrication.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare teams.
- Experience in patient assessment and customization of orthotic devices.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple patient cases simultaneously.
